Cheboygan Middle School & Intermediate School

Our 5th grade students and teachers represented Cheboygan Area schools, and the community of Cheboygan, in wonderful fashion on their field trip to the Alpena Besser Museum..... Good Morning, Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting 114 fifth-grade students from Cheboygan. I must admit, the day began with a bit of unexpected confusion. During my email communication with Ann Bury, a fifth-grade teacher, the activity schedule for the students unfortunately wasn’t attached. As a result, Mrs. Bury arrived with the other teachers and chaperones, having already divided the students into groups, assuming they were aligned with the schedule. Meanwhile, I had been operating under the assumption that she had received the schedule and prepared the groups accordingly. As we worked through the initial confusion, I soon realized that the teachers weren’t entirely sure what to expect, due to the fact they never received the activity schedule I had prepared. Despite the mix-up, I cannot express enough how truly wonderful your fifth-grade teachers and students were. They adapted gracefully as we shuffled through a constantly evolving activity schedule to ensure that every student had the opportunity to visit the planetarium, the new Discover Northeast Michigan History Exhibit, and the Devonian Fossil Park. Some groups also explored the one-room schoolhouse, the fish and wildlife exhibit, and the art gallery. Even with the unexpected hiccup, the students were exceptionally well-behaved, engaged, and seemed to genuinely enjoy their visit. Your teachers displayed remarkable patience and flexibility throughout the day, which I greatly appreciated! I also sent an email to Ann Bury to express my sincerest apologies and appreciation, which was reflected in a discount for their field trip. Your school district should be incredibly proud of these young individuals and their teachers, what a wonderful representation of your community. CIS 5th graders went to the Besser Musuem in Alpena today. Students enjoyed viewing artifacts of Art, history, and science.

Fifth graders did chalk the walk to wrap up mental health awareness month!

Students at CIS had a great time during Field Day today. Thank you to the staff for all of the hard work organizing today's events. And a big thank you to all the parent volunteers for helping.

7th grade students are using the game of Jenga to model important patterns of volcanic activity. The model allows students to make the connection from "stable" systems of continuous, slow change to "unstable" systems that lead to catastrophic events.

Third graders used their knowledge of environments, adaptations & variations to invent an animal suited for their assigned environment today to wrap up their science unit. The creativity was positively bursting from the classroom!

Congratulations to the 6th, 7th and 8th grade Band programs tonight! All three bands did an excellent job with a surprise performance from some of our high school students!

Students from Mrs. Douglas' 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade STEAM class helped release Sturgeon into the Black River today. Students and staff indicated they had a great adventure, and several staff members noted our students were exceptionally well behaved.

Dear Cheboygan School Community - On Friday, May 2, 2025, the Char-Em ISD region, along with the COPESD region, and Northwest Ed region will show solidarity with the Charlevoix school community in the aftermath of the tragic accident that occured with the boys’ varsity golf team on April 27. We want to show the Charlevoix community that the region stands with them as the students and coach recover from their injuries and work to overcome the emotional toll such an accident can have as well. On May 2, please wear Rayder colors of maroon and white, Charlevoix school or community apparel, maroon ribbons, or other ways to show support for the district. Students and staff are encouraged to create posters and messages of support, and share photos of all activities with the hashtag, #RAYDERSTRONG. We want to flood social media with messages of support and encouragement to students, their families, the school district, and the community. Please share this email with your staff and teachers and have them share with their students in advance of Friday’s Rayder Strong Day.
